Endoscopy Specialist Increases Number of Units by 30 Percent

- Customer-specific production of camera modules for surgical systems

- Continuing high demand for imaging solutions

First Sensor AG, a developer and manufacturer of standard products and customer-specific sensor solutions in the growth market of sensor technology, is recording continuing high demand for imaging solutions for optical diagnostics. An endoscopic technology specialist gave notice that it intended to increase purchases of customer-specifically produced camera modules with sales worth millions in 2019 by 30%. The camera modules are used in the robot-assisted surgical systems from a US-based manufacturer and support minimally invasive procedures.

According to Dr. Dirk Rothweiler, CEO of First Sensor AG, the high quality and technical expertise when designing complex optical systems and sensor solutions are decisive factors for the collaboration: "In addition to our pressure expertise, we have many years of experience in the field of photonics with high-precision integration of powerful digital image sensors in the smallest of spaces. Our key customer also values that we respond to increased demands quickly and that we can flexibly expand our production capacity while maintaining the same quality." Since the start of production in 2016, the company has already increased the number of units requested by a factor of eight.

In order to achieve the renewed increase in volume, the qualification of additional machines, doubling of testing stations and training of additional staff are planned for the First Sensor site for photonic sensor integration in Dresden, First Sensor Microelectronic Packaging GmbH. First Sensor is currently exploring the implementation of additional endoscopy projects with the key customer. Optical diagnostics is a growing field of application for the sensor specialist: In the past fiscal year, First Sensor increased sales in this sector by almost 20%. In the current fiscal year, an increase in units produced for an international medical technology group in the field of computer tomography is also contributing to growth.
